A new chapter for summer in Glasgow as the city cuts the ribbon on a modern aquatic center at American Legion Park.
The City of Glasgow cut the ribbon on a new aquatic center Thursday afternoon. The new aquatic center is built on the site of a former softball field that Glasgow High School once used, after the district moved softball to a field at the high school. Where the old pool was is now pickleball courts at the front of the park.
The aquatic center is part of a broader upgrade to American Legion Park that has been years in the making. Furlong has been in charge of the city recreation department for 14 years, and this park renovation has been a big part of his department’s plan.
The aquatic center will open starting this Saturday. The regular aquatic center hours are Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. It will be open through Labor Day.
The center is named in honor of Joyce Driver, who worked at the old city pool for 40 years.
