2-1-1971- Snow, bitter cold closes Barren, Metcalfe, Monroe and Allen Schools but business as usual in Glasgow City Schools.

2-2-1971- A light aircraft made a landing in a creek bank near Edmonton. Mrs. Ruth Henkle was attempted to land in a field after she lost altitude and flying speed.

2-3-1971- County School Question going back on ballot in May at the urgency of a huge delegation.

2-4-1971 – The new two story brick Glasgow Golf and Country Club Clubhouse is almost ready for the summer season.

Construction is nearing completion of the new bridge over Beaver Creek at Old Louisville Road on Lexington Drive.

2-5-1971 – Janet Wood is the new Welcome Wagon Hostess in Glasgow.

2-8-1971 – 6 inch show blankets Glasgow Area. City schools are closed as well as County.

2-9-1971- Little league champs are crowned – Glasgow Daily Times 6th Grade wins by beating May’s Shoes. Citizens Bank won the 4th and 5th grade championship.

2-10-1971- AD – Plaza – Final Day “Cougar Country” in color – 4:00, 6:30 and 8:30. Adults $1.75 under 12 – 75 cents.

2-11-1971- Steve Webb selected for Sportsmanship Trophy in Little League play this season for 6th grade. Dennis Trigg received the award for 4th and 5th.

2-12-1971- Metcalfe County’s Tom Emberton announces W. James Host as his running mate for Governor of Kentucky.

2-15-1971 – Heart Fund Drive is Underway – Rev. John Poteet, Barren County Chairman, Nancy Richardson, Coffee Day Chairman and other chairmen include Patsy Martin, Selma Pedigo and Mary Belle Bowles.

2-16-1971- A benefit dance will be help February 25 for little Tammy Ruth Wilson. She is awaiting a kidney transplant at Vanderbilt in Nashville. (Tammy was born in 1961, had the transplant on March 22nd. She passed away in 1993).

2-17-1971- Mrs. Robert O Clark of Glasgow is sworn in as the newest member of the UK Board of Trustees.

Sports – Tompkinsville over Temple Hill 78-71. Hiseville nips Gamaliel 63-61. Park City 98-52 over St. Romauld. Scots top Larue 72-59.

2-18-1971- New R L Polk & Company City Directory is being delivered here. (Thanks to donors, several Polk Directors from past years are in the Genealogy Room at the SCKCC.).

2-19-1971 – FFA Week is celebrated – Local Chapter Presidents include, Austin Tracy, Kenneth Jones, Hiseville, Gary Botts, Park City, Marcus Lawrence and Temple Hill, Randy Payne.

2-23-1971 – Billy Huffman is the manager of WCDS Radio effective March 1st.

2-24-1971 – AD – Newberry’s – four slice toaster $13.88; 3 piece Teflon coated fry pan set $5.00; Garment bags $1.67 and Plastic Drapes, two pair for $1.00.

2-25-1971- AD – O & L, in Happy Valley – Fitted sheet sale $1.09, Pole Lamps $3.88, Rook Cards $1.00, Panty Hose 38 cents and oversized dish pan 38 cents.

2-26-1971 – AD – Jerry’s – Salad,  choice of two vegetables – entrées Country fried steak $1.65; Deep fried  whitefish $1.65; Chopped sirloin $1.95; Ribeye $2.45, Crispy fried Chicken $1.45 and Pork Chop $2.25.

Mrs. Ethel Bruton is honored as she retires from Folks and Newberry’s.
