Glasgow’s downtown was briefly closed to traffic Tuesday when community members displayed their support for child abuse awareness.

Glasgow Mayor Henry Royse and Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd walked side by side at the front of the march as the group circled the square.

Byrd said this event was in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month, which is also why there are pinwheels in front of the Barren County Courthouse.

“It’s a community walk,” Byrd said of Tuesday’s march. “Stating that all sectors — whether it’s law enforcement, social workers, government — are going to stand together and do what we can to hopefully prevent having these issues in our community.

“Anything that we can do to support individuals that are trying and doing everything they can to prevent this, then we want to do everything we can to support them.”

Byrd added that the event had a huge turnout.

“I looked down and the front of the courthouse was packed,” she said. “It was just wonderful to have the community there.”

As the group walked around the square, several individuals held up signs in support of the cause.

“You Can Stop Child Abuse,” one sign stated. “Call 1-877-597-2331.”
