Glasgow dodged a double play ball and walked off a 4-3 15th District win over Allen County-Scottsville on Tuesday. The Scotties improved to 1-1 in district action.
Down 3-2 headed into the bottom of the seventh inning, Glasgow had a last chance to pull off a victory. After an out, JP Pitcock slapped a single to reach base. Garett Shields followed and hit a ground ball that was misplayed, which allowed him and Huston Haynes — running for Pitcock — to reach base safely. Shields was at first and Haynes was at third.
Haynes scored on a wild pitch during Hudson Gumm’s at-bat, which tied the game. Then Gumm slapped a game-winning single that plated Shields.
The Scotties trailed 3-1 headed into the bottom of the sixth inning where Carter Hodges hammered a solo-home run. That set up the seventh-inning opportunity.
Glasgow lost at Allen County on Monday, 5-4, in the first game of the two-day series. The Scotties face Warren East on Monday and Tuesday next week in the next 15th District two-game series. Allen County faces Barren County next week.
Peyton Lemily pitched the first four innings. He allowed five hits, struck out two and walked two. Braylen Caldwell pitched the final three innings, allowed three hits, struck out three and walked one.
Hodges led at the plate with two hits, while Gumm, Lemily, Pitcock and Thomas Glass each had a hit.
Glasgow, 13-11 overall, returns to action Friday at home against Monroe County in a non-district game at 5:30 p.m.
