Farmers RECC members gathered Thursday at the Cave Area Conference Center in Cave City for the cooperative’s annual meeting of members.

The meeting featured the results of what officials described as a rare contested election for a board seat, along with a leadership change at the top of the co-op.

Members took part in the first contested board election since 1991 explained Caralyne Pennington, Director of Member and Public Communication at Farmers RECC. The results of that election were announced by provost Jenna Glass, a certified public accountant with Campbell, Myers and Rutledge. The cooperative’s by-laws stipulate the election process. Pennington said no one with Farmers knew the results of election before Glass announced them at the meeting.

In the race for the District 3 director seat, serving Metcalfe, Green, Adair and Monroe counties, Jamie Moss defeated Greg Wilson by a vote of 1,041 to 869. Moss was the District 3 incumbent.

District 1 director Brandi Williams also had her term up for election but was unopposed and retained her seat on the board.

Beyond the board elections, the annual meeting highlighted a major leadership transition for the Barren County-based electric cooperative.

Retiring president and chief executive officer Toby Moss addressed members at the meeting. He has served as president and CEO since 2023.

The cooperative announced that longtime employee and vice president of engineering Chuck Bishop has been promoted to president and CEO.

Bishop has been employed with Farmers RECC since 1994 and began his career as an engineering aide before moving into roles as associate engineer and engineering supervisor.

Since 2010, he has served as vice president of engineering, responsible for electric system design, staking, engineering models and maps, the co-op’s system plan and protective schemes, and providing support to other departments.

Bishop brings more than 30 years of hands-on experience with the Farmers RECC electric system to his new role and is considered a trusted voice in the statewide electric cooperative engineering community. He is a lifelong Glasgow and Barren County resident and a graduate of Glasgow High School. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Kentucky.

Farmers RECC serves Barren County and other surrounding communities as the local electric power cooperative.
