The Barren County Economic Authority plans to build a third speculative industrial facility at South Cooper Industrial Park in Glasgow, a move local leaders say is designed to attract new employers, jobs and investment to the region.
According to a news release from the Authority, the BCEA Board of Directors has selected Scott, Murphy and Daniel to develop the 60,000-square-foot building on about 15.32 acres in the park. The planned facility is being designed with expansion capabilities of up to 240,000 square feet, allowing it to accommodate a range of manufacturing, distribution and logistics operations. Officials say the site offers convenient access to the Cumberland Expressway and Interstate 65, which they believe will make the property more competitive for companies that need strong transportation links.
BCEA President and CEO Maureen Carpenter said companies are moving faster than ever and that communities able to provide immediate, move-in-ready space have a distinct advantage in today’s site selection environment. She said the new speculative building strengthens Barren County’s ability to compete for high-quality projects and shows a continued commitment to supporting business growth in south-central Kentucky.
Barren County Judge Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd said available industrial product remains one of the most important assets a community can offer prospective employers. Byrd said the county continues to see strong interest from companies looking for existing facilities and that the new investment will help ensure Barren County is ready to respond when opportunities arise.
This will be the third speculative building developed at South Cooper Industrial Park. Officials say the first two speculative buildings, located on Lot 1 and Lot 7, were each placed under contract within a year of completion and are now home to Bluegrass Ingredients and Union Coating. Construction on the new building is expected to move forward with a target completion in early 2027.
Glasgow Mayor Henry Royse said South Cooper Industrial Park continues to be a catalyst for economic growth and investment in the community. Royse said the new project builds on momentum local leaders have worked hard to create and sends a message that Glasgow is prepared for future opportunities.
Officials with the BCEA said the partnership with Scott, Murphy & Daniel is part of a broader effort to grow industrial opportunities and keep Barren County competitive for new employers. Leaders said South Cooper Industrial Park will continue to be marketed to companies seeking modern industrial space and regional transportation access.
