Seventy-six new names now appear on the Veterans Wall of Honor located on the southwest corner of Glasgow’s downtown square.

They were added last Friday afternoon, and as each new plaque was placed on the wall, a new story and legacy was enshrined in the monument that recognizes hundreds of local veterans.

“This is something that we have been working on for the last couple years,” said Matt Mutter, chairman of the Barren County Veterans Association, in an interview with WCLU Radio. “It doesn’t happen overnight.

“It takes a while to get that many names gathered up.”

Mutter said they can’t just put up two or three names at a time, and have to wait for a collection.

“We try to get at least 30 or 40,” he said. “It’s more time efficient, cost efficient.

“That’s why it takes so long.”

Mutter said community members can submit names to the mayor’s office on the City of Glasgow’s website. He added that it costs $45, but that covers the cost of the plaque while they do their own installation.

Local veteran Phillip Geralds usually helps with that.

“He did it before I came along,” Mutter said of Geralds. “So he’s very knowledgeable about it.

“He was instrumental in getting a lot of names up there.”
