Glasgow-Barren tourism hopeful online pay will aid tax collection

Online payments will hopefully improve transient tax payment, according to Glasgow-Barren County tourism Executive Director MacLean Lessenberry, who noted that some businesses have been delinquent for months.

“I’ve been told by Nick [Hurt, Glasgow’s occupational tax administrator] that starting in July, you will be able to pay transient tax online, through the city website,” Lessenberry said. “So I’m hoping that takes care of some of this.”

The site is being managed by the Kentucky League of Cities, according to tourism commissioner Tim Gooden.

Lessenberry indicated that outstanding payments have affected the tourism’s revenue figures in recent months as the majority of their funding comes from the transient tax. The 3 percent transient tax, which is imposed through an ordinance, is charged by the business to the customer and the business then remits that percentage to the city, according to Lessenberry.

Director of Administrative Services Tina Wood also said $7,116.91 was collected for tourism in March.
