People will now be able to support college students by opting for a new specialty license plate.

When renewing their vehicle registration, Barren County residents can choose the new Kentucky Community and Technical College System license plate, which contributes $10 into student emergency funds, according to system president Ryan Quarles. Barren County Clerk Helena Chase Birdwell confirmed to Glasgow News 1 that her office has the new plates available.

“With every registration, [money] goes directly to our student emergency funds, helping remove non-academic barriers and keeping our students enrolled and on track to earn their credentials,” Quarles said.

Emergency funds help with students’ housing, food, transportation, childcare, academic supplies, utilities and medical bills, according to a system press release.

People can also donate without purchasing the new plate by informing “your local county clerk’s office upon registration,” according to the release.
