GLASGOW, Ky. — The Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders gained one additional Glasgow native to its cheerleading team. Glasgow High School’s Haley Garmon signed a letter of intent at the school Wednesday.
Garmon began cheering as a child with the Glasgow Little League. She began competitive gymnastics while in first grade and continued through fifth grade.
“I’ve cheered ever since I could and ever since I was old enough,” Garmon said. “I’ve always loved it. It’s been a part of me all my life. I’m excited to continue in college.”
Garmon cheered while at Glasgow Middle School and continued into her high school career. She’s cheered on the Scottie teams for the last four years.
Carla Bowles, Glasgow High School’s cheer coach, said Garmon helped during her transition into the coaching position.
“She’s an all-around great cheerleader. Haley’s a great tumbler, a great flyer. She can jump in and do base,” Bowles said. “When I took over the head coach role, I depended a lot on Haley to help me out.”
Bowles described Garmon’s work ethic as a valued cheer team member and stellar student. She gained certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant, or CNA, during her time at GHS.
And every cheerleader has to indulge. Bowles joked about Garmon’s love for ice cream.
“When we went to UCA cheer camp, every meal – every day for a week straight – I’d get their best ice cream,” Garmon said. “It’s always my favorite.”
Damon Hicks, Lindsey Wilson College Cheer head coach, said he met Garmon three weeks ago. He added to Bowles’ commendation and expressed his excitement to add Garmon to his team.
“Within that three weeks, she has been to the gym, and I have seen the dedication already in her tumbling skills,” Hicks said.
Barren County High School’s Emily Caudill and Riley Gibbons are also set to join the Lindsey Wilson Cheer team later this fall. Garmon became the third to commit to the Columbia-based school.
Garmon is the daughter of Eric and Mindy Garmon. Her brother, Cameron, and his wife, Bailey, were also in attendance Wednesday.
