Mrs. Mattie Jean Sheffield, age 85 of Tompkinsville, Kentucky passed
away on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at The Monroe County Medical
Center. She was born in 1934 a daughter of the late Matt and
Ada (Pickerell) Walden.
Mattie Jean retired from KEY Work Clothes, and enjoyed several years working
side by side with her husband on their farm. She was a member of Indian
Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters; Brenda Bartley and husband Darrell of
Tompkinsville, Donna Groce and husband Ralph of Burkesville, one son;
Danny Sheffield also of Tompkinsville, six grandchildren; Lori Brown,
husband Kerry, Kim Smith, husband Dean, Jamie England, husband Jesse,
Kevin Johnson, wife Leslie, Nathan Johnson, wife Crystal, Ashley
Sheffield, wife Amanda. Eight great-grandchildren; Stephen Burnett,
Blake and Garrett Smith, Griffin Sheffield, Hayden and Layni England,
Kaleb and Avery Johnson, and one great-great grandchild to arrive any
day; Coleson Blake Smith. One sister; Loraine Butler of Tompkinsville,
and several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents, and husband Delbert Lee Sheffield, she was
preceded in death by one brother; Ralph Walden.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at
11:00 a.m from the chapel of Anderson-Bartley Funeral Home in
Tompkinsville, with burial in Monroe County Memorial Lawn. The family
will receive friends after 5:00 p.m. on Monday and again on Tuesday
morning from 6:30 until time for services at 11:00.
Pallbearers: Stephen Burnett, Blake and Garrett Smith, Ashley and
Griffin Sheffield, Kevin, Nathan, Kaleb, and Avery Johnson, and Hayden
England.
Honorary Pallbearers: Kenneth Capshaw, Bobby Richardson, Timmy England,
Mark Butler, Darrell Bartley, Ralph Groce, Kerry Brown, Dean Smith,
Jesse England, Dr. Reuben, Enos, Amos, and Abe Schwartz.
Alternate expressions of sympathy may be made to the Monroe County
Backpack Program in memory of Mrs. Mattie Jean Sheffield. These
contributions may be made at the funeral home.
