A crowd of community members, business leaders, and local and state public officials gathered at an undeveloped lot to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College health campus.
The 42-acre site of the new campus is off the Veterans Outer Loop, near Bob Lewis and Donnelley Drive. It was purchased using the $28 million appropriated in 2024 by the Kentucky General Assembly for capital construction projects, according to prior Glasgow News 1 reporting.
“Today represents more than the start of a new building; it reflects [SKYCTC’s] continued commitment to serve more students — serve them better,” said SKYCTC President Michelle Trawick. “Soon this [land] will be a state-of-the-art educational facility that rivals the best in higher education; a place where we will expand healthcare training, offer general education and business classes … because our region deserves the best.”
Barren County State Representative Steve Riley, State Senator Mike Wilson, KCTCS President Ryan Quarles, Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd and Glasgow Mayor Henry Royse also spoke at the ceremony, expressing appreciation and speaking of the benefit this new, greatly needed, campus will have on the region.
“We’ll be replacing an old Tuberculosis hospital with a brand new, state-of-the-art allied health building,” said Quarles, referring to the current campus on State Avenue. “Several years ago when we went to the General Assembly to advocate for this we talked about needs in this community versus wants, and it’s clear that healthcare is a need.”
Additional details on the planning and timeline for the new Glasgow Health Campus will be shared as the project progresses.
