A Bowling Green man charged with arson in Barren County has pleaded guilty.

Shawn Eric Green, Jr., 20, was charged with third-degree arson, three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and first-degree criminal mischief after he set off fireworks in a home off Village Circle on July 4, 2025. He was 19 years old at the time.

The fireworks caused a fire to ignite inside the home, according to a Glasgow police press release at the time. Green left the scene and was later arrested in Bowling Green by Kentucky State Police.

He initially pleaded not guilty to the charges and was indicted by a Barren County Grand Jury in September.

Green changed that plea to guilty on all counts during a court appearance on April 13. The Commonwealth’s Attorney offered a recommended sentence of five years on the arson charge, and five years on the other charges served concurrently with the arson count. Green was also assessed a $1,000 fine and costs, according to court records.

As all counts were Class D felonies, Green was eligible for pretrial diversion. The pretrial diversion is for three years, or until restitution is paid in full, whichever is longer. In three years the case will be reviewed and charges will be dismissed if Green has successfully completed diversion conditions, according to court records.
