Barren County ran through four pitchers in an 8-7, extra-inning loss to Lawrence County on Monday. Colten Wilson, Landon Uhles, Skylar Potter and Jax Vincent combined to strike out 10 batters, but they also walked seven and gave up nine hits.
Some of the walks were intentional ones in the top of the eighth inning when the Trojans intentionally loaded the bases with two outs to try to get a force out at any base. It turned out to work in Lawrence County’s favor when the base runner from third scored before the base runner was out at second.
In the bottom of the eighth, Jordan Harris singled with one out, but Barren was unable to get the tying run across home plate.
In the game, the Trojans fell behind 3-0 in the top of the third inning. They rallied with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Two of the runs came on a home run by Gavin Coffey. Then Skylar Potter added a solo homer to push Barren ahead 4-3 after three.
The Trojans added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth with Potter slapped a two-run homer. Barren led 6-3 after five innings.
Lawrence County scored four runs in the top of the seventh to lead 7-6 headed to the bottom of the final regulation inning.
In the bottom of the seventh, Cameron Crawford led off with a single. Then with two outs, Crawford scored on a ball hit by Price Thompson that was misplayed.
Harris led Barren at the plate with four hits, including a double. Cash McGuire added three hits, while Potter had the two home runs. Jaxon Pierce, Coffey, Crawford and Thompson each had a hit in the game.
