The Boys & Girls Club of Glasgow-Barren County is preparing to celebrate 20 years of serving local children and families with a special event called the Great Futures Jubilee.
Club representative Wade Copas discussed the celebration, saying he has volunteered with the club for 11 years and began working there in 2022.
According to Copas, the Great Futures Jubilee is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 5 at Barren Breeze, a local event venue just outside Glasgow.
He said the fundraiser is designed to honor the club’s two decades in the community and to raise support for its youth programs.
Entertainment will be a major focus of the evening. Copas said the band Bourbon Revival is booked to perform, describing the group as offering a bluegrass and country take on pop and rock songs from the 1970s and 1980s.
Guests are also expected to see live oyster shucking on site, with Aphrodite Oysters traveling from Nashville for the event.
Cave City Distillery is scheduled to provide a bourbon tasting, while Purple Toad Winery has donated wine that will be served during the celebration, Copas said.
Youth from the Boys & Girls Club are planning to put on a performance for those attending.
Copas said the club wants supporters and community members to leave with a smile after seeing firsthand the impact the organization has on local children.
Artist Casey Page is expected to create a live painting during the event. Copas said Page will likely position herself with a view of the crowd to capture the atmosphere of the evening, and the finished artwork is expected to be offered to one attendee.
In addition to the live art, the Great Futures Jubilee will feature a silent auction. Copas said local businesses have donated a variety of items, giving guests a chance to support the club while taking something home.
Sponsorships are also playing a key role in making the anniversary event possible.
According to Copas, sponsors include Amneal Pharmaceuticals, Green Mechanical Construction, Felker Brothers, Bastion Law, and Overdrive Performance.
Overdrive Performance owner Matt Keith is planning to coordinate safe rides home for guests who need transportation at the end of the night, Copas said.
Looking beyond the celebration, the Boys & Girls Club is also working toward a new facility.
Copas said site preparation is underway on the former tobacco warehouse property near the current club.
Trees between the existing building and future site have been cleared, and leveling work has begun, which Copas said marks visible progress toward the new space.
