Both Glasgow and Barren County scored on nearly every possession Friday night, which led to a 49-42 shootout in the Trojans’ stadium.
The Scotties pulled off the win when Landen Holley connected with Keyshawn Austin on a 23-yard touchdown pass with 1:35 left in the game. Levi Mann added the extra point to give his team a 7-point lead.
Austin then sealed the win with an interception on Barren’s final possession.
The game started with a dramatic play when Glasgow ran a double-reverse flea-flicker on its first offensive play of the game. Holley hit Austin on an 80 yard downfield strike with 13 seconds gone in the game. Mann added the PAT, and Glasgow led 7-0.
Barren answered on its first possession of the game when Briggs Harris scored on a 1-yard run. Jacob Dooley added the extra point. The game was tied 7-7 with 7:34 left in the first quarter.
The Scotties punted on their next drive, but Kyle Sledge intercepted a pass in the end zone to stop the Trojans.
After another Glasgow punt, Barren took a 14-7 lead early in the second quarter when Jaxon Pierce ran the ball in from the 2-yard line. Dooley added another extra point.
The Scotties answered with a 13-yard run by Kaebran Jones with 7:59 left in the second period. Mann nailed the PAT to tie the game at 14-all.
The Trojans retook the lead with 4:24 left before halftime when Briggs Harris connected with Jordan Harris on a 17-yard touchdown pass. Dooley hit the extra point and Barren led 21-14.
Before halftime, though, the Scotties answered with a 2-yard touchdown run. Mann’s kick tied the game at 21-21.
Barren County got the ball to start the second half and promptly drove downfield. The drive concluded with a 32-yard touchdown pass from Briggs Harris to Pierce. The kick was short, which left the Trojans with a 27-21 lead with 10:14 showing in the third period.
Less than two minutes later, the scoring continued when Holley connected with Austin on a 48-yard pass. Mann added the extra point kick and Glasgow led 28-27.
The Trojans were undaunted. Briggs Harris hit Jordan Harris on a 20-yard touchdown pass, and Brayden Bartley ran in the two-point conversion with 4:03 left in the third period. That put Barren ahead, 35-28.
The third-quarter scoring was not done.
Holley connected with Austin on an 8-yard pass with 1:22 showing in the third. Mann added the extra point and the game was tied 35-35.
Pierce answered that score with a 63-yard touchdown run with 1:03 left in the game. Dooley added the PAT, and the Trojans led 42-35.
The final two touchdowns of the game belonged to Glasgow.
With 9:54 to play, Jones scored on a two-yard run and Mann added the extra point. The game was tied 42-42.
Glasgow forced Barren to punt for the first time in the game on its next possession, and that set up the Scotties’ game-winning drive.
Kyle Sledge led Glasgow on the ground with 75 yards, while Kaebran Jones rushed for 67 yards, and Holley finished with 42.
Pierce led Barren in rushing with 97 yards, while Briggs Harris rushed for 77 yards, Corbin Wells ran for 66 yards and Jordan Harris finished with 32 yards.
Holley completed 13 of 19 passes for 309 yards. Austin caught seven passes for 213 yards and four touchdowns. Jaylen Bradley caught five passes for 87 yards.
Briggs Harris completed 7 of 14 passes for 110 yards. Jordan Harris caught four passes for 68 yards, and Pierce caught two passes for 41 yards.
Glasgow improved to 2-0 with the win, while Barren County fell to 1-1. The Scotties play at Monroe County this coming Friday, while the Trojans host Metcalfe County.
