Barren County finally opened its softball season Thursday, and won its opener, 11-2, at Pulaski County.
The Trojanettes took control of the game in the top of the second inning with a five run explosion.
With the game tied 1-1, Kaitlynn Ray led off with a single. She moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Josey Moore. Khloe Westmoreland followed with a hit to third that was misplayed. She reached first safely and Ray scored.
Miley Kaumanns entered to run for Westmoreland. Kyra Moore followed and also reached base on an error. Kaumanns advanced to third. Lily Elmore next drew a walk to load the bases.
Hadley Elkins was hit by a pitch and that scored Kaumanns. Norah Shirley followed and drove in Kyra Moore with a single. Shea Bogue next drove in Elmore with a ground out to second.
Barren added five more runs in the third inning to lead 10-1. From there, Bogue controlled the game in the circle and the defense secured the win.
Bogue pitched seven innings, struck out four, walked one and allowed four hits.
At the plate, the Trojanettes registered eight hits and drew seven walks. Shirley led with two hits, including a double, while Josey Moore posted two hits, Elmore had two hits, and Bogue and Ray each finished with a hit.
Barren is off until Monday when it travels to Greenwood for a 5:30 p.m. game.
