Ernest Alton Ritter Sr., known affectionately as Al, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital. Born on August 4, 1937, in the Kino Community, Al was the youngest of six children, whose warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Throughout his life, Al was dedicated to his work as a carpenter and welder, using his skills to provide for his family and contribute to his community.
In addition to his career, Al served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. His service is a testament to his character and sense of duty.
Al was also an avid antique car enthusiast, often spending his free time admiring the classic vehicles that captured his passion.
Al was married to Janice Coffman Ritter for 64 years, a partnership that began on November 18, 1961. Together, they raised two daughters, Laura Ritter Goad (John) and Lisa Ritter Smith (Myron), and a son, Ernest A. Ritter Jr, who passed away on November 30, 2025. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Barbara Ritter.
Al’s legacy will be cherished by his grandchildren, Amanda Settles Lee (K.J.), Brent Goad, Dustin Smith, Zach Ritter (Jordan), and Nick Ritter, as well as his great-grandchildren, including Harper Lee, Ryatt Lee, Kambree Goad, Jodie Smith, Laney Smith, Ryder Smith, Jaxton Ritter, Ava, and Grayson Netherton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Henry Ritter and Laura Shirley Ritter; his son-in-law, John Goad; his sisters Pearl Lyle and Lucille Borders; and his brothers Henry, Hop, and Charlie Ritter.
The family has chosen cremation under the direction of A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service to honor Al will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by DAV Chapter 20.
