This holiday season, people will have the chance to get a live, hand-made wreath courtesy of the Glasgow Future Farmers of America chapter and the Glasgow High School agriculture program.

Agriculture teacher Mattea Wyatt said her principles of agriculture classes, which this semester amounts to roughly 75 students, will be using local tree clippings to craft the live wreaths.

“This is one of our first hands-on things because this is our first year,” Wyatt said. “We are going to be collecting Magnolia, Pine, Cedar and Holly — and maybe Spruce, if we can find it — and we’re going to be bringing those [cuttings] into class. I thought it’d be a good connection for the students.

“It’s going to be very fun and the classroom is going to smell great.”

FFA Ambassador Noah Morgan, who is also a sophomore at the high school, said he is excited to begin making these festive decorations as he is a self-described “hands-on person.” He added that wreaths are $25 — $30 with a bow — and can be ordered by either contacting Wyatt via email, going to the Glasgow agriculture Facebook page or speaking to an FFA member directly.

Wyatt said the deadline to order wreaths is Dec. 8 with pick up being on Dec. 12 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Glasgow High School. She said there’s been so many orders that she’s considering beginning assembly on Dec. 10 instead of Dec. 11.

Money raised through sales will go back into the principles of agriculture class, which, Wyatt said, will hopefully feature more hands-on activities, field trips, and maybe even chickens.
