Melva D. Baskett Bean Blanton, 87, of Vine Grove, Kentucky, formerly of Tompkinsville, died Saturday, September 27, 2025 at her residence. Melva was born on January 10, 1938, a daughter of the late Herbert and Gladys Baskett.
Mrs. Blanton was an avid reader and her love for literature was only matched by her skill in crocheting. Melva’s flowerbed’s were a testament to her patience and nurturing spirit, with roses, irises, and hydrangeas blooming under her attentive care. The vibrant colors and sweet fragrances of her garden were a reflection of the beauty she cultivated in her relationships with family, friends and her grandchildren, who brought her so much joy & laughter.
Mrs. Blanton is survived by one daughter, Debbie Meredith (Michael); two step daughters, Yvonda Rash and Sonya Blanton, six grandchildren, Mark Meredith (Katie), Andy Meredith (Stacy), Jacob Meredith, Tasha McDonald (Patrick), Tiffany Moore (Jesse), Tabitha Smothers (Scotty); fourteen great grandchildren and a host of extended family & friends also survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Eugene Blanton; her parents, Herbert & Gladys Baskett; three siblings, Wallace Baskett, Wilma Grinestaff, Richard Baskett; and a stepson, Ralph E. “Gino” Blanton Jr.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at the Jane Yokley Cemetery in Tompkinsville. Bro. Gary Emberton will officiate the service.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Bartley & Sons Funeral Home in Tompkinsville.
