The construction of South Green Elementary School is still on schedule to be completed by its target date, pending any serious weather during the final months of the year.

GLASGOW — Construction continues on South Green Elementary School, and contractors are confident it will be complete in the coming months.
Members of the Glasgow School Board heard from architects and general contractors at a regular meeting held inside Highland Elementary School Monday evening. Among those presenting were Allison Cummings, associate principal architect of Sherman Carter Barnhart Architects, and Tommy Gumm, CEO of Alliance Corporation.
“We’re still good on our target dates, yes,” Gumm said.
Cummings showed the board more photographs of the construction progress, including the installation of concrete planks in the classroom wing near the roof, construction of the insulated concrete form along the roof line, and the shaping curve near the media center.
Gumm had said in a past meeting that construction on the roof could begin in October, but due to facing a second concrete shortage, a lack of manpower, and other unforeseen circumstances, that goal was not met.
“I did report last month that the mason was getting behind,” Gumm said. “So they agreed to work overtime. They did make up some of our lost time.”
Gumm said roofing the building is the next step. That should occur the week of Nov. 28, but that all depends on an obstacle most builders face during the final months of the year – the weather.
“We’re a little weather-dependent right now,” Gumm said. “We have to have certain temperatures to put the roof on. But all-in-all, I’m pleased.”
The school board will meet for the final time in 2022 next month. That date or location has not been determined.
