James (Jimmy) C. Lyons, Jr., 69, born on August 13, 1957 passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 27, 2026 after a lengthy illness.
Jimmy was a life-long resident of the Bon Ayr Community, where he enjoyed the simple pleasures of nature and the farming lifestyle. One of his greatest joys was observing birds, especially the purple martins, finches, and cardinals. He was a man of few words, who showed his love through his actions, hard work, and the way he cared for those around him. He enjoyed teaching son, Jake, to fish on their family pond. Jimmy cherished sleepovers with his grandchildren and the playful pranks they loved to pull on him.
Jimmy was a former employee of R.R. Donnelly and Sons and Scotty’s Contracting and Stone. He was dedicated to his jobs and his co-workers. He often shared stories about his co-workers and the memories they made together, carrying these stories with him after the close of the work day. It brought him great joy when he had the opportunity to work alongside his son, James, at Scotty’s.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 13 years, Christine Lyons; his sons, James C. Lyons III, his much-loved daughter-in-law, Courtney, and Christopher Jake Lyons; three stepchildren, Amanda Peacock (Scott), Britney Stewart, and Todd John Perry Jr. (Emily); his three beloved grandchildren, Paisley Dyer, Jessalyn, and James Bennett Lyons; seven beloved step-grandchildren, Miranda Morehead (Jacob), Michael Peacock, Catherine Peacock, Elizabeth Peacock, Caleb Peacock, Tyson Perry, and River Stewart; an expectant step-great-grandchild; his loving sister, Carolyn Oliver; and his former wife, Janie, with whom he shared two children.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, his infant son, one step-granddaughter Emmalyn and his furry companion, Diezel.
He leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, hard work, devotion to his family and a lifetime of providing for those he loved. He will be remembered for his gentle heart, caring nature and the many memories he shared with those around him. In his honor, let’s slow down every now and then, enjoy the simple things and take a moment to enjoy the birds.
His funeral will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Hatcher and Saddler Funeral Home, with burial at Merry Oaks Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 30, 2026 from 4-8pm. Masonic Service will be held 7:00 pm Wednesday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral by 517 Hays Lodge the public is invited to attend.
