GLASGOW — A woman has been arrested in connection to the death of her father in Barren County.

Michael O. Logsdon, 75, was discovered dead on July 9 inside his Glasgow residence. An arrest citation alleges a device he had used to breathe was linked to certain suspicious activity.

According to his eldest daughter, Terri Jo Harris, he was diagnosed with ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis – a progressive nervous system condition that weakens muscles and impacts physical condition. He was “unable to move at that point [when he died],” she said.

Cheryl Leighanne Bennett, 45, of McMinnville, Tenn., was arrested along Tangle Wood Drive Thursday in connection to the incident. Bennett was charged with murder and remains lodged at the Barren County Detention Center. She is Logsdon’s daughter, according to an obituary.

Records obtained from a subpoena revealed a BIPAP machine had been powered off numerous times before it was powered down for a final time. The machine was last turned off for four hours.

Cheryl Logsdon, the victim’s wife, told police she and her daughter, Leighanne, were the only two individuals present when the breathing machine was turned off.

An autopsy conducted at the state medical examiner’s office concluded Logsdon’s death was a homicide. His causes of death were determined to be asphyxia and suffocation due to the powering down of the BIPAP machine.

Glasgow Police said additional charges are expected in this investigation. The case remains open.
