GLASGOW — WCLU News is the finalist for two journalism awards as a part of this year’s Kentucky Broadcasters Association Impact Broadcast Awards.
The contest was formerly the Kentucky Associated Press Broadcast Awards. The awards seek to recognize the best work completed by the state’s television and radio stations. All entries are submitted from the prior year’s coverage.
WCLU News is a finalist in the “Short Public Affairs” and “Breaking News” categories.
“It is an esteemed honor to be named a finalist for the KBA Impact Awards,” said WCLU News Director Brennan Crain. “We could not receive such recognition without the community we’re privileged to cover each day. Local journalism is more important than ever, and we pride ourselves in practicing the discipline with accuracy and professionalism.”
The “Short Public Affairs” category includes stories written and broadcasted to raise public awareness of an issue for public good. The entry nominated includes a story titled “Community pours into helping animals, BRAWA during floods.”
The “Breaking News” category recognizes a single, specific, unscheduled, unanticipated news event requiring
immediate response from the news department. WCLU News was nominated for its coverage of tornadoes and their impact on Barren and Hart County.
The complete list of finalists is available here. Winners will be announced April 21, the KBA said.
