GLASGOW, Ky. — BRAWA is in desperate need of supplies for animals being housed at the former Barren County Detention Center.

Animals were evacuated from the Barren County animal shelter early Tuesday due to disastrous flooding inside the building. The Glasgow Police Department and Department of Public Works assisted in the evacuation.

BRAWA has asked the community to step forward and assist in the housing of the animals. Needed items include water, bleach, waste collection items and dog-type pads to collect animal waste.

There is a dire need for fresh water. There is no running water at the jail.

“These animals are very stressed,” said Molly Taylor.

Animals were placed in lit cells, but the conditions are extreme.

The hallways and entrances to the former correctional facility are streaked with animal feces. The various animals’ stress is indicated by the soiled floors.

Volunteers were working to assist in the clean-up. Crew members are also on scene with animal cages.
