GLASGOW, Ky. — Two young Barren County women opened last week a funky new store on the square called “Carsen & Shea.”

The two business owners are Shea Farrell and Carsen Inman, the former owner of the Urban Den.

Their collection contains unique items with big personality while simultaneously doing a good deed for the Earth by buying reused goods. The two said their collection is meant to provide positive vibes with a sense of “funk.”

“Funky to me is when you see beauty in everything and you see what you can do with it,” Farrell said. “We want to push the limits.”

When Farrell, 32, met Inman, 21, they immediately clicked, despite their age difference. Both of them have a vintage-inspired, eclectic taste and free spirits, so they quickly became close friends and realized their potential as a business duo.

“She has her style and I have my own style but a lot of things just mix and match together” Inman said. “We love to meet new people and talk.”

“We thrive on it,” Shea added.

Before their recent pairing, Inman was the owner of a local vintage and thrifting store, The Urban Den, and Shea was operating an online rug and jewelry shop called The Mystic Moth. A passion for giving new life to old things was what brought these two separate paths together.

“I had my daughter when I was not even 20 yet, and I just remember being pregnant with her and making my mom drop me off at little antique places,” Farrell said.

Inman certainly has plenty of her own stylistic expertise under her belt as well, and the new space reflects a combination of their tastes.

The windows are covered in stickers that leave rainbows all over the floors and walls, and colorful furniture and decorations. Just standing in the place makes you viscerally happy, something many folks have grown unfamiliar with throughout the pandemic.

“If people leave a little weirder that’s okay!” Farrell said.

The pair have lots of event ideas to host in the space, some of which might involve Yancey’s Gastro-Pub and Brewery, palm readings, journaling and music. The store is located on the third floor of the former Glasgow Parks and Recreation Building.

“Carsen & Shea” wants to fill Glasgow with life and youth, the two said. They also hope to pull the community together after a difficult year.
