Glasgow Council meeting canceled Monday, other local events planned this week

GLASGOW — A host of local events are etched on this week’s calendar.

The Glasgow City Council scheduled Monday evening was canceled last week. The council meets every second and fourth Monday each month.

The Jan. 24 meeting was canceled due to a lack of business. The next meeting is scheduled Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. The meeting are held inside the City Council Chambers at Glasgow City Hall.

Feeding America in Cave City is planned Wednesday from 8 to 11 a.m. The commodity distribution was rescheduled and will be held at the Cave City Convention Center. Folks living in zip codes 42127, 42152, 42160, 42171 and 42749 are eligible to get food. Proof of residence is required.

Barren County High School will host “Coach Bobby Steenbergen Night.” Steenbergen will be recognized as the inaugural inductee to the Barren County Athletics Hall of Fame. The gymnasium floor will be named in his honor.

The ceremony is planned between games Friday evening, and the girls’ game will begin at 6 p.m.

The Tri-County Hay and Straw Auction is scheduled Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Metcalfe County Fairgrounds. Large square, rolls and small squares of hay will be weighed and tested for nutritional value. Proceeds will go to the Metcalfe County Fairgrounds.

In government meetings, the Barren Metcalfe Emergency Communications Center Governing Board is scheduled to meet Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will be held inside the communications center, which located at 118 E. Washington St.

Election of board positions, selection of an auditor, annual review of the support the board provides to Glasgow and Edmonton, bonding of bookkeeper and treasurer, future funding of 911, updates on projects and new business are items on the agenda.

The Project Development Board of the Barren County Judicial Center is scheduled to meet Wednesday, Jan. 26 at 1 p.m. The meeting will be held inside the Barren Fiscal Courtroom, which is on the third floor of the Barren County Government Center.

The board plans to enter a closed session to discuss future acquisition of property. The board is responsible for overseeing the eventual construction of a new judicial center in Barren County. The Kentucky General Assembly approved money be allocated to the construction, which will eventually relocate all judicial services from the current Barren County Courthouse.
