GLASGOW, Ky. — Continuing its mission to serve many in Barren County and Glasgow, Community Medical Care will merge with the T.J. Community Mission Foundation.
Both entities are non-profits and have operated independently since their inceptions.
Dr. Bharat Mody, a former area physician, founded Community Medical Care in 2002. The goal of the group was to provide healthcare assistance to low-income seniors and working, uninsured adults of Barren County.
T.J. Regional Health’s Community Mission Foundation was founded in 2014 as the philanthropic arm of the healthcare network. The group most recently unveiled an end-of-life care facility in Glasgow — Shanti Niketan Hospice Home.
“We’ve got two wonderful organization, community medical care, and the T.J. Community Mission Foundation that really are forming what’s going to sustain, again, a very good vision for the health of the community,” said Neil Thornbury, CEO of T.J. Regional Health.
Several healthcare professionals have joined Community Medical Care in its service over the last two decades. Mody said pharmacists, optometrists and dentists have all joined to provide equitable health services to the community.
“When the community comes together and joins hands, and everyone pitches in a little bit, something good can happen,” Mody said. “And that is exactly what happened 20 years ago.”
Community Medical Care will dissolve as a non-profit Jan. 1, 2022. The program will be called “Community Medical Care: A Program of the T.J. Community Mission Foundation.”
