Person arrested in connection to Tuesday shooting in Barren County

Nov 3, 2021 | 10:04 AM

Update: WCLU News originally reported the EPO petitioner at Tarry’s property was unknown. It has been confirmed the petitioner was a woman on Tarry’s property. Legal insight into his violation reveals the EPO was violated since he was outside his home when the EPO petitioner was present. The situation still enables a person to be charged with a violation of the EPO despite the petitioner being on the respondent’s property.

Randy D. Tarry, 43, of Glasgow, was arrested Tuesday evening at his home along Talley Road after he shot another person in the face.
(BARREN COUNTY DETENTION CENTER)

GLASGOW, Ky. — A Glasgow man was arrested Tuesday evening after he shot a man at a home along Talley Road in southern Barren County.

The Barren County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting at 60 Talley Road around 6:02 p.m., according to a news release from the Barren County Sheriff’s Office. The shooting happened at the home of Randy D. Tarry, 43, of Glasgow.

A deputy responded and determined Tarry had fired one .22 caliber round from a long rifle at a victim in the face. The victim was not named in the arrest citation narrative, but the person is noted as an “acquaintance” of Tarry’s.

The victim was flown to Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville. The shooting “caused a serious physical injury to the victim.”

Tarry told authorities the victim had his right hand inside his pocket, and he believed he had a pistol. The victim apparently refused to leave Tarry’s property and walked toward him. That’s when he fired a round from the rifle.

The victim was not armed when he was shot, police said.

Tarry had an active emergency protective order filed against him. Police did not say who the petitioner was. It’s also unclear why the petitioner was at Tarry’s home.

Tarry was transported to the Barren County Detention Center because of his violation of the EPO stipulations, which state Tarry cannot have communication or contact with the petitioner. He is charged with first degree assault and violation of a Kentucky EPO/DVO.

The arrest and transport was made without incident. Police continue to investigate.
