Mary Bonzie (Dodson) Kerr Boyles

Mary Bonzie (Dodson) Kerr Boyles passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2021,

having obtained the age of 92 years, 10 months, and 22 days.  She lived in

the Kettle Creek community of Cumberland County, Kentucky.

Born on August 26, 1928 to the late Frank and Clara (Sharp) Dodson, Bonzie

earned an eighth-grade education at Hills Chapel School in Monroe County.

In 1947, Bonzie married Wheeler Kerr, who passed away tragically on May 8,

1964, the result of an armed ambush.  She married Charles Boyles on

December 7, 1968.  Charles passed away on May 14, 2000.

Throughout her life, Bonzie was a homemaker who helped manage the farm,

including livestock, tobacco, soybeans, corn, hay, and oil wells.  When the

nursing home in Tompkinsville was established in 1970, she worked as part

of the first staff, earning certification as a medication aide.  She worked

there until her retirement in 1994.

She was a member of the Kettle Creek Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her

sisters Minnie Nagle of Lafayette, Indiana, and Ruby Crawford of

Indianapolis, Indiana; brothers Reed Dodson of Tompkinsville, Kentucky, and

Leonard “Buster” Dodson, of Indianapolis, Indiana; and several nieces and

nephews.

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Morris and Linda Dodson

of Tompkinsville, Kentucky; nieces and nephews Alene (Brad) Mitchell of

Land O’Lakes, Florida; Linda Kay Van Meter of Cape Coral, Florida; Steve

(Patricia) Dodson of Sadler, Texas; Connie Roberts of Cape Coral, Florida;

Kim (Chris) Walden of Tompkinsville, Kentucky; and Jason (Amy) Dodson of

Moss, Tennessee.

Funeral services will be held at Bartley and Sons Funeral Home in

Tompkinsville on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at 1 p.m. with Jason Dodson

officiating.  The family will receive visitors from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday,

July 19, 2021, and again on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, after 8 a.m. until the

time of the service.  Burial will be in the Jones Cemetery in the Turkey

Neck Bend community of Monroe County, Kentucky.
