The application to fill the position of Plaza Theatre executive director is online.
The position was posted after a special-called meeting last week of the Plaza Theatre Advisory Board. At that meeting, Glasgow Mayor Henry Royse said that the previous director was not terminated “…based on misconduct or any violation of law.”
He pointed out the City of Glasgow is an at-will employment city, which means any employee can be fired, or can leave at any time for any reason.
The former executive director, Carolyn Glodfelter, was relieved of her duties on Tuesday, Sept. 15. Glodfelter had served in her role for 11 years.
Ben Rascoe was appointed interim director until a full-time director can be hired. Rascoe is the technical director for the theater.
According to the job posting on the City of Glasgow’s website, the starting salary for the executive director is $55,000 to $60,000 a year.
The person who is the executive director position is a city employee. The city bought the Plaza in 2001.

The executive director will manage the theater’s day-to-day operations, programming, staffing, marketing, financial activities, and facility needs under the general direction of the mayor.
The position works closely with the Plaza Theatre Advisory Board, which provides guidance on goals, programming, operations, and community needs for the venue.
The role includes coordinating with performers, renters, patrons, vendors, community organizations and city departments to keep the theater active and responsive to the community.
A major part of the job is programming and bookings.
The director is expected to identify, evaluate and recommend performers, productions and events for Plaza-sponsored programming based on community interest, anticipated attendance, projected revenue and expenses, and financial risk.
The executive director will negotiate proposed terms for Plaza-sponsored bookings and rentals, recommend contracts for approval, and oversee scheduling, ticket pricing, staffing, promotion, concessions and other event needs.
The job description also calls for developing and implementing marketing and promotional efforts to increase awareness, utilization, attendance, ticket sales and revenue, and to promote the Plaza Theatre as a regional venue.
On the financial side, the executive director will assist the finance director in developing annual budget requests and projections for operations, programming, staffing, maintenance, equipment and marketing.
The director will administer the approved budget, monitor revenues and expenditures, and recommend financial and operational adjustments to city leaders.
The role includes negotiating business terms for performer agreements, rental agreements, sponsorships and service agreements, and ensuring that receipts and other financial activities are documented in line with city policies.
Personnel management is another key responsibility.
The executive director will supervise, schedule and evaluate theater employees, recruit and coordinate volunteers, determine staffing needs and promote teamwork, customer service and professionalism.
The job also requires overseeing the condition, security and maintenance of the Plaza Theatre facility, coordinating with maintenance staff on repairs, inspections and safety systems.
The director is expected to maintain sufficient working knowledge of stage lighting, sound, rigging and production systems to coordinate activities and supervise technical staff.
Additional duties include attending Plaza Theatre Advisory Board and other meetings, coordinating city-sponsored events at the theater and performing related tasks as assigned.
Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in arts administration, theatre management, business administration, event management, marketing or a related field, along with three to five years of progressively responsible experience in theatre operations, performing arts administration, venue or event management, hospitality or entertainment.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered, and the job requires availability for evenings, weekends, holidays and irregular hours.
