Magaline Childress Meredith, age 77, of Cave City, departed this life on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Hickory Grove Post Acute Care in Gallatin, Tennessee. A native of Edmonson County, she was born on August 8, 1949, to the late Dewey and Ola Glass Childress. She was united in marriage to her beloved husband, Rev. Owen Junior Meredith, and together they shared fifty-seven years of marriage until his passing on August 30, 2023.
Magaline was a hardworking woman who poured her heart into everything she did. For more than thirty years, she owned and operated Magaline’s Antique Mall and Magaline’s Sandwich Shop in Cave City, where she enjoyed meeting people, making friends, and sharing her love of antiques and the simple joys of visiting with others. Her greatest treasure was her faith. As an adult, Magaline came under conviction and began earnestly seeking the Lord. Her search led her to bow beneath an old tree, in Mammoth Cave National Park, where she found the sweet peace and redemption her heart had been longing for. That experience became a cherished part of her testimony and remained a guiding influence throughout her life. She was a member of Northtown United Baptist Church and loved attending church and visiting other congregations, where she was always willing to share her testimony and the story of what the Lord had done in her life.
Magaline had a heart for music and expressed her faith through singing and writing beautiful gospel songs. She found comfort and joy in putting her thoughts and love for the Lord into words and music. She also loved collecting antiques, getting ‘dolled up’ in a hat and jewels, tending to her flowers and garden, and spending time surrounded by the beauty of nature. Whether she was caring for her garden, working on one of her many projects, singing a gospel song, or simply visiting with those she loved, Magaline had a way of bringing her own special warmth and personality to the moments of everyday life.
She leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories for those who loved her, including her precious daughter and caregiver, Lisa Meredith-Wilson of Gallatin, TN; her siblings, Merle Childress (Helen) and Joby Childress, all of Louisville; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss her dearly. In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Jr., she was preceded in death by her siblings, Gertrude Bratcher, Pearl Haynes, Betsy Hatcher, Bobby Childress, Tony Childress, Daniel Childress, and Delano Childress.
She’ll be laid to rest beside her husband at Northtown Church Cemetery.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at Northtown United Baptist Church. Visitation is 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, at Patton Funeral Home Park City Chapel, and 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, at the church.
