The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District has temporarily closed the stilling basin area on the downstream side of Barren River Lake Dam for maintenance work.
The closure began the afternoon of Aug. 24, according to a post on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District Facebook page.
During the project, the public will not be able to use portions of the parking lot, sidewalk or fishing platforms located along the wingwalls below the dam.
Officials say the maintenance is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete.
They have not specified the exact scope of the work, but describe it as important maintenance needed in the stilling basin area.
The Corps says it will notify the public once the work is finished and the closed areas are reopened.
In the meantime, visitors are being urged to respect all posted signs, barricades and closure zones.
Officials say those safety measures are in place to protect both members of the public and the crews working at the site.
The Corps is also thanking visitors for their patience and understanding while the maintenance is underway.
