Douglas Lee Furlong passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026, at his home in Bon Ayr KY, at the age of 75. Born on December 17, 1950, Douglas spent his entire life rooted in the community he loved, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, hard work, and devotion to family that will be treasured for generations to come.

A man of deep faith and unwavering integrity, Doug was known and respected by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He shared a remarkable love story with his beloved wife of 58 years, Pauletta Furlong. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and service, standing hand in hand through life’s joys and challenges with a steadfast love that served as an example to all.

Doug was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and a faithful friend. While he found success in many endeavors, his greatest joy was found in the people he loved. His family was his pride and treasure, and he leaves behind a heritage not only of hard work and wisdom, but of love, kindness, and strong Christian values.

Doug began his career as a licensed plumber before pursuing his true passion in farming. A respected farmer and mentor, he took great pride in helping young farmers learn and succeed, always willing to lend a hand, share his knowledge, and encourage others. His work ethic, humility, and generous spirit earned him the admiration and respect of his community.

His life was marked by servant leadership and a commitment to making a difference. Doug faithfully served as Chairman of the South Barren Fire Department, Chairman of Glasgow Southern States, and Chairman of Old Zion Church. His love for his church extended far beyond leadership roles, as he also faithfully served as Sunday School Superintendent and lovingly cared for Old Zion Cemetery as its devoted caretaker. Through countless acts of service, both seen and unseen, Doug lived out his faith and touched the lives of many.

Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Pauletta Furlong; his son, Brad Furlong and wife Kellie; and his daughter, Kim Gibson and husband Keith. His grandchildren, Austin Furlong and wife Morgan, Cameron Furlong, and Kaleigh Gibson, brought him immeasurable pride and joy. He was especially blessed with two great-grandchildren, Stetson and Statler Furlong, who brought endless smiles and hope for the future.

He is also survived by his niece, Stephanie Payne and husband Kevin; his nephew, Jason Bowman; his great-nephew, Victor Payne; his great-niece, Abbey Bowman; and many dear friends, neighbors, fellow farmers, and church family whose lives were enriched by his kindness, wisdom, and example.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Frank W. Furlong Jr. and Loretta Britt Furlong; his sister, Vickie Bowman; his grandparents, Frank Furlong Sr. and Paulene Furlong; and his grandparents, Bro. Roy Lee Britt and Sammie Lee Britt. Their memories were precious to him, and now he joins those who have gone before him in the presence of his Lord and Savior.

Doug’s life was a testament to faith, humility, hard work, and love. He leaves behind far more than memories—he leaves an example. His influence will continue to be felt in the fields he tended, the church he faithfully served, the community he helped shape, and most of all, in the family he loved so dearly. Though he is absent from this earthly home, his legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, and his loved ones find comfort in the promise that they will see him again.

Memorial contributions may be made to Old Zion Cemetery in Doug’s memory.
