Cornell Lee Guffey, 79, of Tompkinsville, KY, passed away Thursday, May 14th, at Signature Health Care of Monroe County.
Cornell was born in Tompkinsville, KY on January 10, 1947, a son of the late Chloe (Maxey) Smith and Estus Lee Guffey.
He retired from the Kentucky Highway Department after 30 years of service. He also worked at Hagan and Stone as a truck driver for two years. He was a faithful member of Beech Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Cornell was known for his love of music, especially playing with the Summer Shade Pickers. He enjoyed trading, working with horses, and spending time with his dog, Bear
On December 26, 1999, he married Kathlene Adams at their home on Beech Grove Road.
Cornell is survived by his wife, Kathlene Guffey, of Tompkinsville, KY; three daughters, Kim Goss (Shawn), of Tompkinsville, KY; Debbie Messenger (Emory), of Burkesville, KY; Becky Isenberg, of Tompkinsville, KY; a son, Ron Sheffield (Judith) of Denver, CO; eleven grandchildren, Joshua Emmert (Kelsey), Matthew Emmert (Avery), Erin Emmert (Ezra), Billy Messenger (Abby), Carl Messenger, Eric Isenberg (Samantha), Austin Goss (Heather), Payton Groce (Patrick), Darian Goss, Samuel Sheffield, and Joy Sheffield, 10 great grandchildren and was expecting another.
Cornell is also survived by a brother, Stevie Guffey (Teresa), of Summer Shade, KY.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17th at Beech Grove Missionary Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Beech Grove Cemetery. Bro. Sammy Norris will officiate the service.
Visitation is Saturday, 4:00-8:00 p.m., at Yokley Trible Funeral Home, and Sunday, 8:00 a.m. until 12 noon at Yokley Trible Funeral Home.
