Glasgow played a pair of games over the weekend in the 2A Baseball State Tournament. The Scotites opened with a 2-0 win over Johnson Central, then got knocked out with a 14-1 loss to Whitley County. Whitley beat LaRue County, 4-0, in the tournament title game.

Against Johnson Central, Glasgow scored both of its runs in the top of the fourth inning. Carter Hodges — who was the winning pitcher — hit a one-out single. Cooper Hatton entered to run for him and later raced to third on an error by the Golden Eagles’ pitcher. He later scored on a wild pitch during Thomas Glass’ at-bat. Glass eventually drew a walk.

Glass moved to second on a ground out by Landon Martin. He scored on a single by Huson Haynes.

That was all of the run support Hodges needed. He pitched a one-hitter through seven innings and struck out six. He walked two.

Huston Haynes led the Scotties at the plate with two hits. Glass, Hodges, and Steven Garrett each had a hit.

GLASGOW 1, WHITLEY COUNTY 14
The Scotties managed only two hits against the 17-2 Colonels. The 13th Region school is three years removed from winning a state title.

The Glasgow pitching quad of Braylen Caldwell, Steven Garrett, Garett Shields and Thomas Glass gave up only seven hits, but they walked nine.

Whitley scored nine of its runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Hodges and Martin had two singles for the Scotties.

Glasgow (12-10 overall) opens 15th District action today with a game at Allen County-Scottsville at 5:30 p.m. The Scotties host the Patriots at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
