Farmers RECC has announced four area students as winners of the 2026 “Government in Action” Youth Tour, giving them the opportunity to visit both the Kentucky state Capitol and the nation’s capital this year.

Youth Tour winners will travel to Frankfort in March to visit the state Capitol and then to Washington, D.C., in June for the national Youth Tour experience, according to a press release from Farmers. The program is designed to introduce high school students to state and federal government, including meetings with U.S. congressional members, energy and grassroots government education sessions, and sightseeing in Washington.

The 2026 recipients are Nephthalie Velcine, daughter of Cristophe and Carmelle Velcine and ward of Becky and Philip Baise of Cave City; Jonathan “Gabriel” Ash, son of Jonathan and Teresa Ash of Bonnieville; and Corinne Keller, daughter of Rose Rovera Saltsman and Pete Saltsman, and Jozie Allen, daughter of John and Tammy Allen, both of Edmonton.

According to Farmers RECC, Kentucky is one of 45 states that send a youth delegation to the annual electric cooperative youth tour. Since 1964, the nation’s electric cooperatives have collectively organized trips for more than 40,000 high school juniors and seniors to Washington, D.C. Farmers RECC is a not-for-profit electric cooperative serving more than 27,000 services across 11 Kentucky counties.
