William Richard “Dickie” Harper Jr., age 79, of Scottsville, KY, passed away Friday, June 19, 2026, at his residence of natural causes. Funeral services will be at 9:00 AM on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Graves officiating and burial to follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West with Military Honors. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements.

Mr. Harper was born on December 6, 1946, in Hopkinsville, KY, the son of the late William Richard “Bill” Harper Sr., and Margaret D’Mellow Harper. Dickie was a postal carrier for more than 30 years. He is a Vietnam Veteran having served in the Navy as Corpsman Medic attached to the Marine Corps. He was a member of the American Legion, the National Association of Letter Carriers where he served as Past President, the Honor Guard of Franklin, KY, and was a former Jaycee. He was a member of the Northstar Community Church in Scottsville, KY. Above all else, he was defined by three things: his faith in God, his love for his country, and his unwavering dedication to his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend to so many. He will forever cheer on the University of Kentucky Wildcats.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Janet M. Harper, Scottsville, KY; his sons, Richard “Scott” (April) Harper of Glasgow, KY, Jason Wade (Karyn) Harper of Cadiz, KY, Samual “Sam” (Ada Roehr) Wright of Hopkinsville; his daughter, Brandy Wright (Loren) Bailey of White House, TN; his brothers, Wayne Harper, Bobby Harper, Mike Harper, Darrell Harper, Sidney Harper, Terry Harper, Bryan Harper, all of Cadiz, KY and Dennis Harper of Aurora, KY; his grandchildren, Aleia Kate Harper, Grant Harper, Alexis Harper (Bryan Chaudoin), Wade Harper (Jordan Alder), Paige (Dalton) Upton, Tatum Wright, Sydnee Bailey, Jack Bailey; and his great grandchildren, Sadie Upton and Lanie Upton. He is also survived by countless nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly and cherished as part of the family held so close.
