Blumberg-Codell, a joint venture between Blumberg Grain and Logistics and Codell Construction Company, has been selected by the Barren River Agriculture County Coalition during its first meeting.

In the Barren County Fiscal Court room and via Zoom, the three members of the coalition selected the joint venture as a consultant for its three-county cold storage infrastructure project. The three members include Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd, Allen County Judge-Executive Dennis Harper and Hart County Judge-Executive Joe Choate with the members representing their respective counties in the coalition.

“To get things going…we put out a [Request for Proposals] to get a consultant to help us facilitate this [project],” Byrd said during the meeting. “It stayed out to bid for two weeks…we had one turned in and that was Blumberg Grain.”

Byrd told Glasgow News 1 that there is no cost to the coalition for selecting Blumberg Grain as “each process study design and construction will be reviewed ” by the members before seeking agriculture economic funds.

“No cost associated at all,” Byrd said. “They basically become like an adviser to us throughout this process.”

The coalition was created when the Barren County Fiscal Court Magistrates approved an interlocal agreement with Hart and Allen counties on June 27.

The interlocal agreement stated the purpose of the consortium “is to promote and support agricultural development in the Barren River Kentucky region” through the purchase of land, or properties, throughout the three initial counties with the goal being to develop cold storages and controlled atmosphere storage for produce and perishables.

Blumberg Grain also serves as a consultant for the unrelated Barren County-specific grain storage project.
