More people in Kentucky are earning degrees and credentials, according to the Council on Postsecondary Education.

Compared to the previous year, degrees and credentials obtained during the 2024-25 academic year were up 5 percent, the council stated, and up 15.1 percent since the 2019-20 year.

“At a time when more and more jobs require some education or training after high school, I am extremely encouraged by the positive momentum in degree production,” said Council on Postsecondary Education President Aaron Thompson. “Behind every percentage-point gain are hundreds of students better prepared to meet the challenges of Kentucky’s rapidly evolving job market.”

The degrees and credentials presentation given during the council’s November meeting showed gains at every degree level and sector from 2023-24 to 2024-25 including at public universities — like WKU — which had an increase of 3.5 percent in undergraduate degrees and credentials, a council press release stated.

Similarly, the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, of which SKYCTC is a part of, experienced a 7 percent increase in associate degrees and a 3.9 percent increase in credentials.
