Glasgow Independent Schools Superintendent Chad Muhlenkamp spoke to board of education members during their regular meeting Monday night about the new Early Childhood Education and Agriculture pathways as well as an update on the Jobs for America’s Graduates — or JAG — program.
Muhlenkamp said 87 students are currently enrolled in the Early Childhood Education pathway, with 134 students in the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America — or FCCLA — club. He noted that the club had 35 members last year and 18 before that.
“That will help open up some new avenues and opportunities for those students,” Muhlenkamp said, adding that all students at Glasgow Middle School are exploring various careers “so they can start having that mindset moving into the high school.”
“Our agriculture program is off and running as well,” he continued.
Glasgow has 102 students currently enrolled in the new ag program and Future Farmers of America chapter, and three dual credit students through Murray State University, according to the presentation. An FFA leadership team will be elected next semester.
Muhlenkamp said the 25 students currently enrolled in the JAG program are able to get real-world connections and gain extra confidence in themselves.
“A lot of them have been able to gain an inside voice that they’ve not had in the past,” he said.
Muhlenkamp said teacher Jackson Arnett has been doing a great job building relationships with the JAG students, adding that the students all spoke very highly about his ability to get them involved in the program.
Looking forward, Muhlenkamp said the JAG program currently has 30 students enrolled for the spring semester, adding that once they get graduates from the program, the school district will continue to follow up with them once they graduate to better analyze their job training.
After the superintendent’s presentation, board members collectively said they were impressed with the school district’s newest additions.
In other business, board member Barret Lessenberry was elected to the Calendar Committee for the 2026-27 school year, and the board approved a $5,000 donation to Glasgow High School’s performing arts program.
