Barren County Schools is in the top 10 Kentucky school districts based on the recorded number of school safety pledges taken so far during Kentucky’s school safety week.

Kentucky’s school safety week is Sept. 8-12 and the Kentucky Center for School Safety announced during the week the theme is “Focus on School Safety.”

“This year’s theme emphasizes the critical need for constant vigilance and proactive measures in maintaining secure learning environments across the Commonwealth,” the center stated. “This dedicated week aims to empower schools to strengthen their safety initiatives through targeted activities and discussions. The goal is to raise awareness about various aspects of school safety and empower students, teachers, parents, and the wider community to take proactive steps in creating a safe and nurturing learning environment for everyone.”

As part of this “dedicated week” the center has an online “Focus on School Safety” pledge that asks respondents to show respect, kindness, and acceptance to others; stand against bullying; stay alert and “report anything that doesn’t seem right;” own up to personal actions and follow school rules; and work “with others to build a safe, supportive school community.”

Based on the “pledges per county” statistics from the center, Barren County Schools is in the number three spot with 1,471 pledges taken. Glasgow Independent Schools has eight and Caverna Independent Schools has 29 competed pledges so far.
