Mary Cathern Hale

Mary Cathern Hale, 79, of  Tompkinsville, KY, passed away Tuesday, June 10th, at her daughter’s home.

Cathern was born in Tompkinsville, KY,  on March 31, 1946, a daughter of the late May Belle (Strode) and Med  Chapman.

Cathern graduated from Tompkinsville High School in 1965. She spent much of her working life in sewing factories. Her testimony is that she was saved as a teenager in the backseat of a car while going down the hill at Mt. Poland. She attended Skaggs Creek Missionary Baptist Church, where she loved attending. Known as “Nanny” to her grandchildren, she loved her grand-fur babies, Sasha, Diesel, Bella and Copper. She enjoyed playing board games, yahtzee and rummy with her grandchildren.

On November 12, 1966, she married Bobby Hale, who preceded her in death.

Cathern is survived by two daughters, Pam Bartley, and husband, Ricky, of Tompkinsville, KY;  Sherry Groce, of Tompkinsville, KY;  four grandchildren, Mary Birge and husband Adam, Emily Bartley, Troy Bartley and Tyler  Bartley.

Mary is also survived by a brother, Roy Chapman, of Tompkinsville, KY.

Other than her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a sister, Clarice Page and a brother, Reggie Chapman, and sister-in-law, Jessie Chapman.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 13th at 12 noon at Yokley Trible Funeral Home in Tompkinsville, KY, with burial to follow at Skaggs Creek Cemetery.

Visitation is Thursday, 4-8 p.m., and Friday, 8:00 a.m. until 12 noon at Yokley Trible Funeral Home.
