On Feb. 14 the Barren County Contractors Association Board of Directors had their inaugural meeting in the Barren County Development Center to discuss some of the things the five board members would like to see in the nonprofit’s bylaws. The contractors association is a new nonprofit.

The board members discussed the length of elected positions, which they decided would be staggered two-year terms. All members will vote on the positions.

They also discussed at length the minimum insurance requirement needed for membership. Chairperson Don Wyatt commented that if there was not a distinction that comes along with membership they were “just giving the public a list.”

Due to the variation in needed insurance coverage based on the trade, the board members leaned towards just requiring proof of insurance instead of a specific amount.

Finally, they mentioned the possibility of voluntary educational opportunities for their members.

Wyatt said he would take their ideas and meet with attorney Brian Pack to get a rough draft.

The idea of the association was to help both contractors and the general public and was first discussed on Jan. 27 in the Barren County Fiscal Court chambers.

The new association has roughly 50 members.
