The Barren County Fiscal Court magistrates approved the transfer of more than $112,000 for a park renovation bond payment during the Dec. 30 special-called meeting.

Appearing either in-person or via Zoom, the six magistrates present unanimously voted to make the $112,159.45 transfer from the general fund to the parks and recreation fund that will be used for the first payment on the Jackie Browning Park Renovation project, Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd said.

“Parks has its own funding [and] account [but] they don’t have a season right now so there’s no income to generate [the funding],” Byrd said. “That might be different, of course, in the spring when it’s all going, but this is the bond payment on the park renovation project; nothing else.”

With just one day left before the new year, the magistrates also approved the transfer of roughly $1.58 million from the American Rescue Plan fund to the general account with the expectation that the county treasurer, Amanda Steger, would later transfer the money to a South Central savings account, which was authorized at the meeting.
