Approval of the Statesmen Advisory contract is a key item featured on the Feb. 4 meeting of the Barren County Fiscal Court.
The idea of a federal lobbyist was first discussed at the Dec. 16 Administration and Budget Committee with all the committee members — Magistrates Jeff Botts, Marty Kinslow and Brad Groce — voicing their support.
At last month’s fiscal court meeting, the magistrates voted by a 5-1 margin to continue contract conversations with Statesmen Advisory and at the meeting Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd said the county would pay $2,000 a month, the Glasgow Water Company would contribute $2,000 and Allen County would contribute $500 a month.
Byrd said the lobbyist would focus on the Ag Expo Center and a water treatment expansion at the Narrows at Barren River Lake.
According to the contract, the firm’s work will include “developing a federal grant strategy, appropriation and earmark guidance, federal liaison services and strategic relationship building.” The contract is for a two-year duration beginning on Feb. 1.

Also on the agenda is the approval of a multi-county regional project resolution. Based on the supplied documents, the resolution authorizes the “filing of a Kentucky House Bill 1 Project Grant application up to $1 million.” Similarly, the magistrates are set to approve a resolution “authorizing the completion and filing of a Government Resource Accelerating Needed Transformation Program of 2024 project application for up to $289,850.”
