Mr. Richard Lewis Claywell of Louisville, Kentucky, formerly of Burkesville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 30, 2024 with his family lovingly by his side at the Radcliff Veterans Center in Radcliff, Kentucky having attained the age of 83 years, 7 months, and 2 days. He was born in Burkesville, Kentucky Monday, October 28, 1940, the son of Illus and Lovell (Easter) Claywell. Mr. Claywell was of the Christian faith having accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior as a member at the Little Flock Baptist Church. He retired as a production worker at General Electric and was a passionate member of the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Claywell was a helicopter door gunner in Vietnam and carried the burden of that duty until his last breath. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph Claywell, Rollind Claywell, Harley Wayne Claywell, sister, Helen Elmore, and an infant sister.
He is survived by his wife Magdalene (Pharris) Claywell, whom he wed Thursday, August 7, 1975, daughter, LaDonna (& Larry Toth) Claywell, granddaughter, Andrea (& Ben) Lancaster, great-grandson, Asher Lancaster, bonus grandsons, Chris Toth and Brian Toth of Louisville, Kentucky, siblings, Bennie Earl Claywell of Louisville, Kentucky, Lyle Webster Claywell, and Shirley (& Winfred) Loyall of Hodgenville, Kentucky.
The funeral service will be conducted Sunday, June 9, 2024 at 4:00 pm in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home in Burkesville, Kentucky, with Bro. Gary Cash officiating. The Family will receive friends after 2:00 pm Sunday, June 9, 2024 at the funeral home until the funeral hour. Burial will be in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery in Radcliff, Kentucky Tuesday, June 11. Cumberland Lodge # 413 F. & A.M. of Burkesville, KY will confer the last Masonic Rites for Brother Richard Claywell, Past Master of Falls Lodge # 749 F. & A.M. and on behalf of Falls Lodge # 749 F. & A.M. of Clarksville, Indiana on Sunday June 9th, 2024 at 4:00 PM CDT in the Chapel at Norris & New Funeral Home. Cumberland Lodge # 413 F. & A.M. will open the lodge at 2:30 PM. All Master Masons are encouraged to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Carl M. Brashear Radcliff Veterans Center.
