Farmers RECC is now accepting applications for eight one-time $1,000 scholarships to help local students pay for college, technical college or trade school.

According to the cooperative, the scholarships are available for the upcoming academic year and are designed to support members’ families with education costs. In 2025, Glasgow residents Addison McCoy, Emma-Kate Smith and Tinsley Neagle all received scholarships.

Three of the eight scholarships are set aside specifically for students in Barren County. One scholarship is designated as an at-large award, and the remaining four are reserved for students in other nearby counties served by Farmers RECC.

Farmers RECC officials say the $1,000 awards may be used for tuition, fees, campus housing, textbooks and other supplies that are directly related to the recipient’s education, and that the funds will be disbursed directly to the accredited college, university, technical college or trade school the student plans to attend, rather than to the student.

To be eligible, the student or the student’s parent or guardian must be a Farmers RECC member at their principal place of residence. Applicants must be entering at least their freshman year of post-secondary education or pursuing a master’s degree.

Nontraditional students are also encouraged to apply. The scholarships are one-time only awards, and previous winners are not eligible to apply again.

The cooperative notes that recipients will be selected by a drawing in early May. Students will be notified that they have been chosen at their school’s end-of-year awards program, and may also be contacted by phone or email.

Before funds are awarded, students must provide proof of full-time enrollment and a student ID number at an accredited institution, such as a class schedule or account balance statement.
