Glasgow Band Director Inducted into the Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity

Feb 23, 2024 | 12:39 PM

Mr. Jonathon Holmes, currently serving as the second longest tenured head band director of the Historic Glasgow Scottie Band Program, received the incredible honor of being inducted into the Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity on Friday, February 9th at the Kentucky Music Educator’s Association In-Service Conference. This accolade is one that only a select group of band directors are invited to be a part and is by invitation only. This is not the only major accomplishment Mr. Holmes has garnered through his career in music education. In addition, Mr. Holmes was also awarded the 2019 Phi Beta Mu Outstanding Young Band Director Award, an accolade only received by one Kentucky band director each year.

Mr. Holmes has served as head band director at Glasgow Middle and Glasgow High School since 2014. Previously he served as assistant band director of the Adair County High School band program; a 24-time KMEA state champion and 6-time BOA National Champion. During the last 10 years, Mr. Holmes’ concert bands have received straight distinguished ratings each of those years at both GMS and GHS. Mr. Holmes has led the Scottie Marching Band to 6 KMEA state finalist appearances (out of the 14 total in school history) and the 2022 KMEA State Championship Title. Additionally, the Glasgow Scottie Band has been a finalist for the prestigious John Philip Sousa SudlerShield Award since 2018 (6 years consecutively). The Scottie Band was also invited and performed in the 2016 National Memorial Day Parade in Washington D.C.
