HARTFORD, Ky. (Oct. 9, 2023) – Ohio and McLean Counties have been awarded more than $4.2 million in funding that will go toward resurfacing roads, expanding access to high-speed internet, supporting cleaner water, increasing tourism and supporting local nonprofits.
Governor Beshear awarded Ohio County almost $86,000 to resurface Hopewell Road. He also awarded McLean County $252,000 to resurface parts of Kaizer North and Buck Creek Church Road.
Through the Better Internet Program, Charter Communications will receive more than $1.2 million to connect 627 homes and businesses in Ohio County to high-speed internet. The company will also contribute nearly $2.5 million in matching funds.
Beshear presented a total of nearly %1.5 million from the Cleaner Water Program to organizations and cities in Ohio County. The awards will increase water service to more than 1,700 underserved families. Funding will go to Ohio County’s Fiscal Court and Water District, as well as to the cities of Beaver Dam, Hartford, Fordsville, and Centertown.
The Governor presented $1 million for the Ohio County Water District to rebuild its raw water intake facility. This funding is in addition to the $1 million announced for this project last year.
The Beaver Dam Tourism Commission received nearly $30,000, and Ohio County Tourism Commission received almost $13,000 to support travel marketing and promotion.
More than $167,000 from the Team Kentucky Nonprofit Assistance Fund will go to five nonprofits in Ohio County. Nonprofit organizations receiving funding include The Jerusalem Ridge Bluegrass Music Foundation of Kentucky, Habitat for Humanity of Ohio County, Holy Redeemer Parish of Beaver Dam, St. John Parish of Fordsville, and the Family Wellness Center.
